Envelope Scrapbook Album

Hello!

I recently discovered the awesomeness that is Envelope Albums! Just toss some photos and a scrapbook page into a decorated envelope. Quick and Easy.

This is an 8in by 8in album that holds 6in by 6in pages. I made it using 12×12 paper. I used the Bella Boutique stack from DCWV.

Card Making Classes

Over the last few months I’ve been going to classes for making greeting cards. These classes are hosted by Stamping Up instructors and have been a blast!  Here are a few of the cards we have made in class. Click to Enlarge!

Tie dyeing a power cord

I found a post on Make the other day and was inspired. PVC can be dyed! Who’d a thunk it?

You can see the post here : http://makeprojects.com/Project/Cable-Dyeing/750/1

So I placed my order and not so patently waited for my dye. After a few trial and errors on PVC pipe I made this Tie Dye Cable.

And then a Scrapbook inspiration! I used my scrapbook punches to cut out shapes from Blue painter’s tape. Older and more used punches were not sharp enough to cut crisp shapes in the tape. When I was done I scrubbed it down with orange cleaner to get ride of the tape residue.  It came out awesome! Think of the possibilities, Bats and pumpkins for Halloween lights, Candy cane cords for the X-mas tree!

Update 7/8/2011: Thanks for all the requests for me to make custom cords. I love the challenges you’re giving me! Please pop over to my store and message me though Etsy for custom orders.  http://frogget.etsy.com Thank you! <3

Want to do this project yourself? Here is a list of supplies and the amount I paid for them after tax+shipping. Just follow the instructions on Make! When making the Tie Dye cord it is good to have an assistant closing the containers between colors in order to assure the dyes do not get darker as you go. The solvent resist gloves are not very solvent resistant, just ask my blue and orange husband hehehehe. I recommend wearing 2 pairs at a time.

Power Cord $9.08
Dye $74.06
Solvent  $41.52
Paper Towels $1.09
Metal Tray $6.59 (Don’t steal your wife’s cookie sheet as you will be dyeing it colors)
Gloves $15.09
Plastic painters sheet $1.99
Eye Droppers (Free from the pharmacy)
Painter’s Tape $3.09
$152.51 Total

This page is dedicated to the much anticipated lift for my husband’s Jeep. As my first Man themed page it was difficult to find the right supplies. This is a very photo heavy page.  I really wanted to show 2 things; my Husband installing the lift, and the final product. I used blue ribbon to bring all the details together and crisscrossed under the Final Product Photo. In the area that was left I made it all about my husband.

Behind the pages I used a brown paper bag to simplify the background and bring the focus to the photos. The photo slides are made from birch wood, aluminum, and white foam so they are soft. I used strips of aluminum from a soda can to bring a little more manliness into the layout.

The Dress, a Wedding Dress Scrapbook Layout

This was my dream dress. It was everything I wanted and therefore needed a page dedicated to it in the wedding album. The dress was Ivory and Hunter green which set the colors for the layout. I went with a gold title to bring in more warm tones. This page has a journaling spot because photos alone could not tell the story of the dress. This is a sheet of Michaels Lace paper over a sheet of green shiny paper. I cut the mat for the journaling spot from an identical piece of green paper, but could easily have saved paper by cutting it from the center of the paper behind the lace. The Journaling spot is on an ivory sheet of paper.

This is another layout which would have been very photo heavy had I not had the Photo Flowers. These allow me to highlight the details that would have been lost otherwise without overwhelming the layout. The necklace my mother gave me, the beading on the dress, the beading on the veil, the matching flowers on my nails, and more are essential to telling this story. I used multiple sizes of Photo flowers in this layout, 1 inch and ¾ of an inch frames in 1 ¼ to 1 ½ inch flowers. They were made specifically for this layout using the extra paper from the Journal spot mat.

The paper roses are on wires. The wires I have coiled under the photo flowers to hold them in place.

My Mom did so many wonderful things for me when we were planning the wedding. I wanted to make sure her page was truly special. Mom’s dress set the colors for the layout with pink and brown. I made a muted pink mat for the main photo to help it stand out from the antique flower patterned background. The star cut outs soften the mat and help it fade away so the focus is on the photo. I surrounded the photo with highlights from the day; Mom’s special corsage with succulents, Mom helping me with my dress, and finally Mom right after the ceremony. I really feel like these embellishments are helping to tell the story of the moment.  I did not include a date or journaling spot in this layout because as part of the wedding album it really didn’t need one.
